Replace existing bridge on SR 25 (US 17) over Darien River

Project ID: 0017188
Construction Year: 2027
State: GA Counties: McIntosh

Entity: Georgia Department of Transportation

This project will construct a new, 0.9-mile roadway in Douglas County, connecting SR 5/US 78/Veterans Memorial Highway and SR 6/US 278/Thornton Road. The new road will be located in the northwest quadrant of the intersection, which is approximately 1.2 miles southwest of Austell and 1 mile east of Lithia Springs.

To handle the increased traffic, minor widening will take place on both SR 5 and SR 6. Specifically, the westbound section of SR 6 will be widened to three through lanes, with a dedicated right-turn lane to both SR 5 and the new roadway. Left turns will be prohibited at the intersection of SR 5 and SR 6.

On SR 5, the southbound lanes will be expanded to three, and the outermost lane will be a right-turn-only lane onto SR 6 westbound. Additionally, a raised median (7 to 14 feet) and a 14-foot flush median will be added along SR 5, while a 16-foot raised median will be added along SR 6.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
