Mid-Currituck Bridge
Project ID: R2576
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Currituck
Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation
The Mid-Currituck Bridge is a proposed project designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve hurricane evacuations for the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Currently, the only highway crossing of the Currituck Sound is the Wright Memorial Bridge on U.S. 158. This single point of access often causes significant backups on U.S. 158 and N.C. 12, especially during the busy summer season.
This new toll bridge would create a second, 7-mile crossing, connecting the Currituck County mainland to the Outer Banks. It would provide a vital second route, significantly shortening travel times and improving safety during severe weather events. The project also includes a second two-lane bridge over Maple Swamp, connecting Aydlett to U.S. 158. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
