Project ID: U5767
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Mecklenburg

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing a project to improve traffic flow and prepare for future traffic growth on U.S. 21 (Statesville Road) in Huntersville and Cornelius.

The project, divided into two sections (U-5767 and U-5771), aims to improve the stretch of road between Gilead Road and Westmoreland Road. The proposed work includes:

  • Road Widening: Adding new lanes to U.S. 21 with a central median.

  • Safety Enhancements: Incorporating innovative intersection designs to improve traffic flow and safety.

  • Accessibility: Adding accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The U-5767 portion of the project focuses on improvements north of NC 73, while U-5771 addresses the area south of NC 73. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
