Intersection Improvements at NC 50/NC 210 and SR 1534 (Belt Road)

Project ID: R5900
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Pender

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

To help alleviate congestion, improvements are being proposed along Charlie Medlin Drive and Caretta Drive. These two roads will be used to create a new quadrant road that bypasses the busy intersection of N.C. 50, N.C. 210, and Belt Road.

As part of the plan, Caretta Drive will be extended north by about 1,200 feet to meet N.C. 210 at a new traffic signal. Both Charlie Medlin Drive and the extended portion of Caretta Drive will feature two 12-foot lanes and a center two-way left-turn lane. At the new intersection of Caretta Drive and N.C. 210, Florence Way will also be extended to create a fourth leg. To improve traffic flow and signal timing in the area, the existing traffic signal at the N.C. 210 and Kayda Way/Fun Center Drive intersection is scheduled to be removed. These intersections will be converted to a right-in/right-out access design, with Fun Center Drive featuring a channelized left-turn lane for traffic coming from westbound N.C. 210.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
