The Complete 540 project is a major highway expansion and road construction project in the greater Raleigh, North Carolina area. This extension will expand the Triangle Expressway (I-540) from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to I-87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 in Knightdale. Once complete, this new roadway will close the 540 outer loop around Raleigh, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion for commuters in Apex, Cary, Clayton, Garner, Holly Springs, and Knightdale. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
