Improvements to SR 20 from I-75 to I-575

Project ID: 0007836
Construction Year: 2030
State: GA Counties: Bartow, Cherokee

Entity: Georgia Department of Transportation

Planning on driving through Georgia? The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has a major road widening project underway that will impact your commute. This project focuses on State Route 20 (SR 20), a key East-West corridor that connects Cartersville and Canton. The goal is to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on this popular route.

The 17-mile SR 20 widening is a significant undertaking, converting the current two-lane highway into a four-lane roadway with a median. This expansion will stretch from I-75 in Bartow County to I-575 in Cherokee County, providing a much-needed capacity boost for drivers.

As part of the project, GDOT is also addressing key structures and intersections. This includes bridge widening over Stamp and Boston Creeks, as well as the complete replacement of Knox Bridge over the Etowah River. Additionally, drivers can expect to see intersection improvements with new single and multi-lane configurations designed to handle increased traffic volume. This project is a major step toward improving Georgia's transportation infrastructure and making travel easier in this growing region. Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
