Charleston County Council has halted work on the Main Road Segment C project. This decision follows a staff update at the February 6, 2025, Finance Committee meeting, where it was confirmed the project team could not find a way to proceed. The primary challenges were the inability to resolve public concerns regarding impacts to the natural environment and existing residential/commercial structures, and the inability to reduce the project scope while still achieving the essential goals of improving capacity and relieving congestion.
Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
