Widening of NC 45 from US 17 to the Southern City Limits of Colerain

Project ID: R5809B
Construction Year: 2027
State: NC Counties: Bertie

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing to widen NC 45 to improve safety and traffic flow. This project will increase the width of the existing lanes and shoulders from the Washington County line all the way to Colerain in Bertie County.

The overall project, R-5809, is divided into three distinct sections. Project R-5809A extends from the Washington County line to US 17 at Midway. The final section, R-5809C, covers the portion from the southern city limits of Colerain to the Hertford County line.

The central part of the project, R-5809B, is a 12.4-mile stretch of road from US 17 at Midway to the southern city limits of Colerain. This specific segment is a key part of the broader effort to enhance the mobility and safety for everyone who uses NC 45.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
