To address safety issues, a new intersection will be built to fix the current awkward setup where four roads meet in a curve. The existing intersection of White Jenkins Road and N.C. 275 with N.C. 274 and Oates Road is hard for drivers to navigate safely.
The new plan will change the layout significantly. White Jenkins Road will become a dead-end, and a new intersection for N.C. 275 and N.C. 274 will be constructed about 200 feet to the east, creating a safer angle with better visibility for drivers. Oates Road will also be realigned to meet N.C. 274 at a new four-way intersection with Mall Ridge Drive, approximately 860 feet to the west.
Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
