Intersection Improvements at 16th Street/Sandy Ridge Road and 21st Avenue

Project ID: C5196
Construction Year: 2028
State: NC Counties: Catawba

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The City of Hickory is planning to upgrade the intersection of 16th Street NE (Sandy Ridge Road), 21st Avenue NE, and Eighth Street Drive NE.

The goal is to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for everyone, including pedestrians and cyclists. The current intersection, which uses traffic lights and turn lanes, will be replaced with a roundabout.

Additionally, the project will add a 5-foot sidewalk and a 10-foot multi-use path along 16th Street NE, extending to 29th Avenue Drive NE. These new paths will connect to existing and future networks, creating better access for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout Hickory.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
