Safety Improvements Along U.S. 221 Alternate (Charlotte Road/Main Street) in Rutherfordton and Spindale

Project ID: HL0065
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Rutherford

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) proposes to improve mobility and safety along U.S. 221 Alternate (Charlotte Road/Main Street) in Rutherfordton and Spindale. This project aims to enhance intersections and implement a "Complete Streets" design that is safe, convenient, and accessible for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders. As part of these improvements, the project will provide dedicated facilities and optimized transit stops. Additionally, it will involve the installation of four Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations near the corridor: two in downtown Rutherfordton and two in downtown Spindale.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
