NC 16 Bypass at SR 1380 (Optimist Club Road) Construct Grade Separated Interchange
Project ID: U6134
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Lincoln
Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation
The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing a significant upgrade to relieve traffic congestion on N.C. 16 Business in Lincoln County. The project centers on the N.C. 16 and Optimist Club Road intersection, where a partial cloverleaf interchange will be constructed. This work requires realigning Optimist Club Road to pass over the existing N.C. 16 highway. Additionally, a multi-use path will be built along both sides of Optimist Club Road east of Forney Creek Parkway. The project will require approximately 14 acres of easements from the Forney Creek Trail (Carolina Thread Trail), which is owned by the Catawba Lands Conservancy, though the preliminary design assures there will be no adverse effects on the trail's activities or features.
Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
