U.S. 1/U.S. 15/U.S. 501 Improvements from White Hill Road (U.S. 15/U.S. 501)/Rocky Fork Church Road (S.R. 1179) to north of Bryan Drive (S.R. 1198)

Project ID: U5975
Construction Year: 2026
State: NC Counties: Lee

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is planning two key projects to improve traffic flow and safety along U.S. 1/U.S. 15/U.S. 501 in Lee County. These upgrades will use a Reduced Conflict Intersection, also known as a Synchronized Street, to enhance the driving experience.

This project focuses on the section of U.S. 1/U.S. 15/U.S. 501 between White Hill Road and Bryan Drive. The NCDOT will convert this stretch into a Synchronized Street, which will eliminate left turns from side roads such as Lark Lane and Bryan Drive. Instead, drivers will make a right turn and use a dedicated U-turn at a median opening approximately 600 to 1,000 feet away, significantly reducing the risk of collisions. This design will also remove the left turn from the main highway onto White Hill Road/Rocky Fork Church Road.

This second project targets the busy intersection of U.S. 1/U.S. 15/U.S. 501 and N.C. 78 (Tramway Road). The plan is to upgrade the highway to a Synchronized Street from south of Bryan Drive to north of Carthage Street. The primary goal is to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow at the intersections of N.C. 78, Center Church Road, and Pendergrass Road, making for a smoother commute for everyone in the area. If you are a property owner in the project area, understanding your rights to fair compensation is essential.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
