Cajah Mountain Road Improvements from Connelly Springs Road to U.S. 321A in the Town of Sawmills

Project ID: U6157
Construction Year: 2027
State: NC Counties: Caldwell

Entity: North Carolina Department of Transportation

The ongoing road improvement project from Hudson to Sawmills is designed to improve safety and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Safety upgrades on the western end include widening roadway shoulders to 8 feet, with 5 feet paved, and up to 11 feet in areas with new guardrail installation. The project also involves realigning the intersection at Hudson Cajah Mountain Road to improve visibility and raising the speed limit from 35 mph to 45 mph west of Sawmills.

Within the Town of Sawmills, the focus is on creating a more accessible network. The roadway will feature curb and gutter, along with dedicated 5-foot bike lanes and 5-foot sidewalks. These will transition to a 10-foot multi-use path from west of Helena Street/Kendell Place to U.S. 321A.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
