Entity: Georgia Department of Transportation
In Quitman, Georgia, a project is underway to replace the existing bridge on State Route (SR) 76/SR 333 over the CSX Railroad and Crawford Street.
The new bridge will be built at the same location and will feature four 12-foot lanes, two-foot gutters, and 5.5-foot sidewalks. The approaching roadways will also have four 12-foot lanes, with medians that vary from 0 to 12 feet, 2.5-foot curb/gutters, and five-foot sidewalks. The total project length is approximately 2,000 feet.
The road will be completely closed for 18 months during construction, requiring an offsite detour for drivers. This road closure is expected to affect at least one hurricane season, while the total 24-month construction period will span two.
Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
