Birmingham Northern Beltline from Glenwood Road to SR-79

Project ID: STPAA-0180

Construction Year: 2026
State: AL Counties: Jefferson

Entity: Alabama Department of Transportation

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has completed the first phase of the Birmingham Northern Beltline, a vital 52-mile, six-lane corridor. This initial 1.34-mile segment, a highway grade and drain project between SR 79 and SR 75.

Beltline will stretch from I-59 in northeast Jefferson County to the I-459 interchange with I-59/20 near Bessemer. This ambitious project is expected to enhance cross-region accessibility, stimulate economic growth, and create jobs by addressing current development and future traffic growth. Uniquely positioned with four converging interstates, the completed Beltline will eventually touch every mainline interstate in Jefferson County, forging significant opportunities for prosperity and interconnectivity across the greater Birmingham area and the Southeast.

Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.

Should you be impacted by this project, we can help. If you are a landowner in the footprint of this project and would like assistance with this process or would like more information regarding your rights relative to eminent domain, condemnation, or easements, please contact us today.
