This is a significant infrastructure initiative in Jefferson County (Birmingham area), focused on improving the Interstate system south of the downtown core. The project involves widening and adding lanes to a 2.0-mile segment of I-59/I-20, stretching from Fairfield Boulevard to Valley Road. In addition to expanding capacity, the scope includes the essential replacement of dual bridges over Weibe Drive (BIN 9517, 9518) and Valley Road (BIN 9519, 9520), as well as the removal of dual bridges located 0.15 miles north of Milstead Road. The multi-million-dollar construction phase for these roadway and bridge improvements.
Work for this project will include the acquisition of new right of way and a variety of easements imposed on adjacent landowners through the eminent domain process.
